Episode 74: Does LeBron James use IBC?!
Welcome to The IBC Guys Podcast!
Welcome back to the IBC Guys! Recent documents show that LeBron James borrowed $300 million from life insurance companies back in 2018. Is LeBron leveraging IBC? Why didn’t LeBron borrow from the bank? Does LeBron know something that most people do not?
In this episode, Dave explores the idea of leveraging money outside of a bank. Should one do that? Are life insurance companies actually a viable option? How would one do that?
Most importantly, how does all this fit into IBC?
This episode is for those that like to think outside of the box. Get ready to be challenged to think differently!
Also in this episode, Dave gets risky, he wants to take on the giant podcasts, and Dave asks for LeBron James’ money manager to reach out.
Key takeaway: Life insurance can play a role in your financial system that you’ve likely never thought about.

Episode 73: IBC and The Psychology of Money (Financial Games)
Welcome to The IBC Guys Podcast!
Welcome back to the IBC Guys! In this episode, we resume the discussion of Housel’s book “The Psychology of Money.” Our next chapter is titled “You and Me,” and its premise is understanding (1) the financial game you’re playing - rules, timeline, goal, etc. - and (2) understanding that other people are playing other financial games. Dave works to walk through Housel’s thinking, while providing personal and external examples. Are you able to articulate the financial game you’re playing?
Then, taking Housel’s idea into the IBC arena, Dave wonders if people often try to take IBC and make it play a different game. If IBC doesn’t fit the game people want IBC to fit into, does that just simply mean that IBC was built to play a different game? Dave provides goals for IBC with the goal of helping you better think through the notion of whether or not IBC is best for your family.
This is a good episode - don’t miss it!
Also in this episode, Dave talks both Ellen DeGeneres and movies with very poor language, and he shares his plans for getting Mike to come do a podcast.
Key takeaway: Don't copy someone's financial strategy until you understand what game they're playing—and whether it's the same game you want to play.

Episode 66: IBC and The Psychology of Money: Reasonable > Rational
Welcome back to The IBC Guys Podcast!
Welcome back to the IBC Guys! In this episode, we continue the series on the psychology of money using Housel’s book as a guide. We discuss Chapter 11, Reasonable > Rational. Housel discusses the need to remember the human side of how money is used when making decisions. There is often a best, rational choice when it comes to money, but that choice may not be the most reasonable. Housel encourages the reasonable choice because it is more realistic and is tenable over the course of a longer amount of time. Excited to discuss and excited for you to join us!
Also in this episode, Dave toots his own horn, Mike likes chocolate but not the kind you think, and Dave puts his IBC Cash Value to a practical use!
Key takeaway: “Do not aim to be coldly rational when making financial decisions. Aim to just be pretty reasonable.” - Housel

Episode 65: IBC From Someone Else: What Do Others Say About Policy Design?
Welcome back to The IBC Guys Podcast!
Welcome back to the IBC Guys! In this episode, Dave takes a look at IBC through the eyes of another producer - someone else who works with IBC. In taking a look through their free guide, what do they have to say about policy design? What do they encourage? Caution? Does what is said line up with what Mike and Dave talk about? More importantly, does it line up with what Nelson Nash talks about? All this is done with the goal of helping you decide what you think. Join in and let’s talk IBC policy design!
Also in this episode, Dave says “stuffs”, Mike is traveling the world, and Dave is ready to go golfing. This is as practical and implementable as an episode can get, so don’t miss it!
Key takeaway: Both (a) ideology and (b) policy design matter in IBC, but not all whole life policies are created equal—and policy design matters more than most people realize.
